Here are seven simple strategies to help you easily transition to a wholesome, plant-based diet:

1- Start slow

 Pick a few plant-based meals and rotate them through in a week. “Start with meals you have always enjoyed that just happen to be plant-based.

2- Cut down meat and processed food intake.

 Instead of going cold turkey from the beginning, start by changing the proportion of plant and animal-based foods on your plate. This will give your mind and body time to accommodate to the new diet. Make simple changes like adding a large portion of salad or a fresh fruit bowl to your daily meals.

3- Go for plant-based breakfast. 

Once you’ve tested the waters, you can take the next step by committing to eat at least one plant-based meal every day. A wholesome, vegetarian breakfast is a good place to start.

4- Stock up on healthy foods.

Take time to explore vegetarian and fresh produce aisles at your local supermarket. Stock up your kitchen with nutritious, plant-based foods and keep healthy snack options in easily accessible places like your bag, desk drawer, kitchen counter and fridge.

5- Keep your meals fun and exciting. 

Focus on foods you like and ones that are easily accessible to you. Then learn new ways to make those simple recipes more fun and flavorful. Try out new recipes every now and then!

Lastly, keep in mind that any transition takes time. So try, make mistakes and test the waters to see hwta works for you and helps you keep your body in harmony.

Vegetarians tend to have a lower body mass index and lower overall cancer rates. Vegetarian diets tend to be lower in saturated fat and cholesterol and have higher levels of dietary fiber, magnesium and potassium, vitamins C and E, folate, carotenoids, flavonoids and other phytochemicals.

2- You feel more energetic

People eating a plant-based diet have consistently found themselves to be happier, stronger, and more energetic. Better yet, a plant-based diet can boost your immune system.

3- Help fight climate change

Non-vegetarian diets take a lot of water, money and CO2 to be produced. Meat, chicken and animal products have a higher production rate that increases the CO2 emissions in the air, and waste more money than vegetarian food.

4- It can help solve world hunger

World hunger isn’t an issue of scarcity, it is an issue of resource allocation and distribution. It would mean that earth producing calories most efficiently and this would lead to more space for additional crops, which could help feed hungry people around the world.

5- It saves money

Vegan/Vegetarian options are more popular and more famous around the world. Vegetables and essential vegetarian diet ingredients are cheaper than meat and animal produce.

6- Clearer skin

Eating vegetables and reducing unhealthy, unnecessary excess of oils in your body will help the body detoxification itself from toxins faster which leads to clearer glowy skin. Plus fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants and other substances necessary for skin glow up.

Vegetarian diet is rich in fiber and low in calories. So eating a full plant based meal will leave you fuller for a longer time and with much less calories which could lead to weight loss, while staying full.

Plant based means low fat, lower cholesterol levels, and lower blood pressure which contributes to a healthy well functioning long lasting healthy heart.

It helps you protect your brain against serious illnesses, Alzheimer, risk of cognitive impairment and dementia.

I love trying out new recipes, and this is a very interesting way to keep me on track, because i decided to turn my diet into plant-based only! (cheering sounds)

For this meal i used to follow a recipe with meat in it. But luckily i found a delicious recipe that cuts the meat from it. Thank you Deborah for this delicious recipe. Here’s the link to her website!

Mushroom Stroganoff (vegetarian)

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 500g mushrooms, quartered
  • ½ teaspoon English mustard
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 250ml vegetable stock, made with a stock cube
  • 200ml sour cream (full fat)
  • ½ bunch chopped parsley
  • Your choice of pasta/noodles or rice, plain white rice.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Heat the oil in a nonstick skillet. Once the oil is hot, add the onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until the onion is soft and translucent. Add the garlic cloves and continue to cook for another 2 minutes.
  2. Add the chopped mushrooms to the pan and sauté for another 5-6 minutes until the mushrooms are soft and golden.
  3. Mix the paprika and mustard and add to the pan and make sure that the mushrooms are coated. Pour the stock into the pan and stir. Simmer gently for about 5 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the sour cream.
  4. Mix in the chopped parsley and serve over egg noodles (or rice).
